The Ludlow Typograph Company in Chicago
Ludlow Typograph Company

Live in a landmark.

Our building was originally erected to house the Ludlow Typograph Company. The company was founded in 1906 by the machine's inventor, Washington Irving Ludlow, and machinist William A. Reade to engineer a simpler, better alternative to popular typograph machines. Before the modern computer, typographs created letterforms out of metal that could then be arranged, inked, and pressed onto to paper. Manufacturing of the Ludlow Typograph began in Chicago in 1912 and by 1919 the Typographs were in service in over 350 printing offices. The machine used propriety typefaces created by principle typesetter R. Hunter Middleton. Some of these typefaces were digitally scanned and can still be used on the computer today.

The current renovation has given the building a new life. As a celebration of timeless architecture and design, our designers blended finished and unfinished, raw and polished and opposing forms that are not often seen together. Our reinvigoration of the once industrial building has transformed it into a haven of high-end living spaces waiting for you to call it home.

Our slice of Lincoln Park.

Lincoln Park residents love this area for it’s beautiful architecture, walkability, and short distance from the loop.

A 15-minute walk east will take you to the intersection of Armitage Avenue and Halstead Street where you will find some of Chicago's acclaimed restaurants like Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba, Blue Door Farm Stand, and Summer House Santa Monica. A short trip down Clybourn Avenue will take you to multiple grocery stores and a wide variety of shops to take care of all your needs (and wants).

The Ludlow is also within walking distance the 73 bus stop and the Armitage train station.
